Restylane®
The two most important substances in the makeup of healthy, youthful appearing skin are collagen and hyaluronic acid. Collagen is a protein which provides support, while hyaluronic acid is naturally-occurring sugar, whose most important function is to bind water and give fullness to the skin. As we age, these support structures begin to deteriorate, resulting in the loss of support for the skin and formation of wrinkles. Dermal fillers offer replacement of lost support with a non-surgical injection to restore volume and fullness to the skin, resulting in a more energized, healthy and youthful appearance.
The Restylane® dermal filler utilized at Superior MediSpa is a unique non-animal, stabilized, clear gel form of hyaluronic acid that does not contain any animal protein. As such, no allergy testing in necessary.
Used in more than one million treatments around the world, commonly treated areas are the glabellar lines between the eyebrows, the nasolabial folds between the nose and edges of the mouth, as well as wrinkles about the eyes and lips and areas of depressed scarring such as acne scars. Restylane® is also useful in the treatment of the lips to accentuate borders and give fullness to the lips.
Restylane® injection is typically performed as a single visit treatment with treatment and recovery usually requiring 30-60 minutes. Skin injections typically require no anesthesia, while lip injections are usually performed following injection of a simple local anesthetic. Results are instant and patients can return to normal activities following treatment. Patients will usually experience some very mild bruising at the injection sight which resolves a few hours after treatment.
Average treatment with Restylane® has been shown to last six months or longer. Most patients with skin injections will have touchup injections performed 6-12 months following first treatment. Touchup of lip injections is typically performed 4-8 months following initial treatment. Touchup treatment before the product has completely disappeared had been shown to enhance the lasting effect or the skin can be allowed to return to its normal pretreatment appearance with no permanent, lasting change.
