BOTOX®
BOTOX® treatments have been used safely for many years in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders of the body and ophthalmologic conditions of the eyes. This purified, medical protein is now available as BOTOX® Cosmetic, FDA-approved and utilized in a simple injection for the reduction and removal of wrinkles, crow’s feet, forehead creases and band lines in the neck.
BOTOX® acts to block nerve impulses to the selectively treated tiny muscles of the face and neck, causing these small muscles to relax and not contract. This results in smoothing of the overlying skin, while untreated muscles contract normally. While results can be dramatic, there is no effect on normal facial expression.
The BOTOX® procedure is typically performed in a quick 10-15 minute session, involving a few tiny injections, in areas selected for treatment. BOTOX® remains only in the treated muscle, without traveling throughout the body. There is little in the way of discomfort with the injections and most patients can return to normal activities immediately following treatment. You may begin to see results in a few hours following treatment, although most significant improvement typically occurs 3-5 days after injections.
